We want to ‘break the bias’ this International Women’s Day
Today (8th March) is International Women’s Day 2022. The aim of International Women’s Day is to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness against bias and take action for equality.
This year’s theme is #BreakTheBias.
Trainee scaffolder Paige is a female member of our team who challenges gender stereotypes:
Paige Pickering (Paige) is a trainee scaffolder at Powertherm and joined us in November 2021. Her role is to help her colleagues to erect and dismantle scaffold and support the team with general labouring tasks. Paige is happy to get involved wherever she is needed.
She enjoys working in different locations and working with her colleagues to learn how the scaffolding industry works and gaining new skills every day. Paige describes the team she is part of as ‘helpful and always willing to teach me new things’.
She finds understanding the designs of the different scaffolding structures the most challenging part of the job, however she is already understanding these much more than when she started.
Before joining the Powertherm scaffolding team in November 2021, Paige worked in retail, providing customer service, but she has always wanted a job in construction and was determined to prove that it was possible for women to work in this sector: “My friends at school used to laugh at me and say ‘only men can do that job’, I wanted to prove them wrong and show them that women can succeed if they work hard for it”
Outside of work, Paige likes going to the gym, boxing, spending time with her family and going on holiday.
Looking towards the future, Paige would like to become a fully trained scaffolder and progress on to higher roles.
“Since I started working for Powertherm as a Trainee Scaffolder, I’ve really enjoying my experience here. Everyone is friendly and approachable which makes going to work so much better. I can’t wait to progress further within my job here.”
